Instant Pot Duo V2 8 Litre Review

When you’re looking for an electric pressure cooker the first things you usually look for is the price and the size. If you really like the Instant Pot pressure cooker and a larger size is the best for you it’s only a little extra money for the larger pressure cooker at this moment in time. Let’s review the features :

The pressure cookers of old were noisy and always a bit scary when they were on the stove, but efficient at cooking quickly all the same. Today the options are more varied, you can still get stovetop pressure cookers which are much improved, but for the easiest and most flexible use, the electric pressure cooker wins out in my opinion and the Instant Pot manages to stay the top of the range in this field.

The electric pressure cooker is much quieter these days, it’s easy to forget about it when it’s cooking and useful that it sounds an alarm when it’s finished and with all the technology included it can keep tight control of the pressure inside so its always regulated.

If you’re worried about the safety of these pressure cookers you will be happy to know that the Instant Pot Duo V2 8 Litre has 10 proven safety mechanisms, it has 3 that relate to the lid area. It can detect if the lid is on correctly and won’t start until it is, it also knows the standard time to come to pressure and if it is taking longer it will switch to keep warm only in case there is a fault with the seal or the valve in the lid, and it won’t let you open the lid until the pressure is fully released. The other 7 regulate the temperature and pressure controls, keeping everything within safe parameters and if anything happens outside those parameters it will turn off the heat.

If you dislike the idea of a non stick inner pot like most units on the market then you will like the stainless steel inner pot with a 3 ply base supplied in this 8 litre electric pressure cooker, it can easily be scrubbed out and has no non-stick layer that can be scratched off. It also comes with a steam rack, manual and recipe book to give you some recipes to start if you want them. There are a lot of books and videos with Instant Pot Duo recipes.

This is an Instant Pot 7 in 1, this means it can do all of these functions, pressure cook, slow cook, rice cook, saute, yoghurt making, steaming and a warming option that kicks in at the end of cooking time unless you switch it off.

Control Panel

There is an easy touch button control on the front of the pressure cooker which offers pre-set times for soup, meat/stew, bean/chili, poultry, rice, multigrain and porridge. You have 2 pressure levels for pressure cooking and 3 heat levels for saute and slow cooking. There are +/- adjustment buttons so that you can adjust set times if you would prefer a longer or shorter cooking time.

One of the good options on this cooker is the delay timer which means you can load up the inner pot with all of the ingredients and then set it to delay coming on so that it will start cooking when you want it to, whether that is to make dinner for when you come in at night or to make breakfast so it is ready when you get up.

When pressure cooking the pressure valve is on the lid of the cooker, you just turn it the pressure position before you set it to cook and when it is finished it will slowly de-pressurise if you leave it but you would normally just move the valve to the vent position and the steam releases in a minute or two.

Slow Cooker

If you want to use the slow cooker you would just set everything the same as if you were using a crockpot, when you put on the lid you would leave the pressure valve on the vent position as you don’t want it to pressure cook, you can also purchase a glass lid that will fit on top of the pot instead of the normal lid if you like to be able to view how it is cooking, and you can set the level of heat you want to use, low, medium or high turning your Instant Pot into a crockpot.

Customer Opinion

Some customers feel it is the best kitchen gadget that they have ever had.

Buyers are finding that it’s so easy to use they leave it out on the worktop as they have started using it all of the time.

Customers love the fact you can brown your meat before slow cooking or pressure cooking.

The negatives found are some people feel that if you have an 8 litre pot you should be able to cook 8 litres of food but all pressure cooker pots can’t be filled to the top as they need space to be able to produce the steam to bring to pressure. Some people find it too long to bring to pressure and to cool down.

This Instant Pot Duo V2 is a great option of a large pressure cooker. It’s not the cheapest large pressure cooker but it does offer a lot of options in safety, size and accessories and in my opinion worth the price you pay for the quality of the electric pressure cooker that you get.
