If you’re looking for a high quality, top of the range pressure cooker 6 litre then you’re in the right place. I’ll be giving you my review on the Instant Pot Duo 7-in-1 Electric Pressure Cooker, 6 Litre, 1000 W.
This is one of the most talked about kitchen products, so we’ll be looking at whether it lives up to expectations.
Instant Pot Duo 7-In-1 Review
This pressure cooker has 7 different cooking options which makes it a great asset in the kitchen. It looks good with it’s stainless steel body and would fit well into any design of kitchen.
It’s large in size but not too big that it can’t fit onto the worktop.
Dimensions: 31 x 34 x 31.7 cm
Diameter : 22 cm
The instant pot 7 in 1 uk has a large, easy to use digital control panel which is easy to program. This is well placed on the front of the cooker and the buttons are large enough to read the description and to press without catching the button beside it.
The lid is black with a large handle across the full width. This makes twisting and locking the lid simple, even one-handed. The sealing ring is on the inside of the lid and can be removed for washing.
The pressure valve is on the top, well marked and accessible with a sliding function. This 6 litre electric pressure cooker also comes with a removable power cord, just like a kettle cord.
Inside there is the inner pot. It just sits in the body of the cooker on the heating plate. It’s marked with a measure on the side so you should never over fill it. You can lift it out and serve from it if you make a one pot meal but it will be hot, and you will need to use heat protective gloves.
There is a steam tray with handles which is very useful if you’re cooking meat and want to lift it out without burning yourself.
I found this very helpful when I made a stew with beef cheeks. I added the meat on the tray and the vegetables and stock around them. When cooked I was able to remove the meat, cut it up then add it back to the stew.
How it works
You can use this cooker as a pressure cooker, great for making a meal in a short space of time, especially when you have a hungry household expecting you to feed them quickly. You can cook a variety of foods from a joint of meat to soup.
You can saute your meat and veg in the bottom of the inner pot by using the saute function. Press the saute button and add some fat or oil in the bottom. When you have sealed the meat you can press the cancel button to stop the cooking.
Add your other ingredients if you are pressure cooking or slow cooking. Don’t fill any higher than the max level on the side of the pot. Add the lid and lock into place. If you are pressure cooking set the pressure valve to sealing.
Select one of the function buttons depending on what you are making or you can just press the pressure cooker button to put a manual time. You have a short time to adjust the timing function if you want to change it. The cooker will beep and the pressure will start to build.
The timer doesn’t start to count down until the pressure is reached. Once the cooking time is over it will automatically switch to keep warm until you are ready for it. To release the pressure you can let it de-pressurise on it’s own by leaving it a while or just move the lever on the top to venting and the steam will escape.
Steam is hot so handle carefully.
If you want to use the slow cooker function you don’t have to close the valve on the top to sealing but just leave it on venting. You even have the option to buy a see through glass lid to use when slow cooking.
Don’t forget that you can use your Instant Pot as a rice cooker too.

How about a yoghurt maker, you can add your own flavourings, you can add your own probiotics and also limit how much sugar or additives, if any you add. You can make a big pot of natural yoghurt then let the kids add whatever flavourings and fruit etc. that you allow them to have.
You can also steam your vegetables, fish or chicken. The benefit of keeping all the micronutrients inside the pot and then keep them warming until you’re ready for them if you need to.
One of the best features of this digital control is the fact that you can set it to delay cooking for up to 24hrs. You can cook dinner, clean up then set up porridge for breakfast to be ready for when you get up, and when it’s finished cooking it automatically switches to keep warm, great if you have an extra snooze in the morning.
The Instant Pot Duo 60 7-in-1 has 10 proven and patented safety mechanisms.
In the old pressure cookers with the weighted pressure valve on top, gravity held the valve to keep the pressure, which is why any movement caused lots of hissing and steam release, in the new electric pressure cookers the pressure sensors are inside making it an easier and more controlled way to get a precise pressure level. The sensor controls the heating element allowing the pressure level to stay consistent.
The 10 safety features are :-
- Lid Close Detection
- Leaky Lid Protection
- Lid Lock Under Pressure
- Anti – Blockage Vent
- Automatic Temperature Control
- High Temperature Warning
- Extreme Temperature & Power Protection
- Automatic Pressure Control
- Pressure Regulator Protection
- Excess Pressure Protection
That should relieve any fears you might have about having this plugged in and working overnight or when you’re at work.
In the box you will get the steam tray, a rice measuring cup, a rice spoon and a ladle.
If you are looking for other accessories to use in the Instant Pot 6L then there are a few others available. An egg tray for ease of steaming your hard boiled eggs. You can buy a vegetable tray for easier vegetable removal.
If you want to have a spare seal for the pressure cooker lid then you can buy sets of them online if required.
This is only a few of the parts available. This is a popular product and there are many extra accessories out there.
If you’re still not convinced about the features of the Instant Pot 7 in 1 pressure cooker let me show you 3 alternative electric pressure cookers that might suit you.
Tower Health One Pot Express 12-in-1 Electric Pressure Cooker
The Tower pressure cooker gives you the benefits of being electric so you get the pressure control and safety. The difference in this version is that it is more basic than the Instant Pot 6 Litre.
You don’t get the option of changing the pressure level or does it have a slow cooker but it is a very capable machine.
I have owned this model for over 2 years and it was well used with no issues. It has some preset options for ease of use but I must admit I mostly used the manual timing.
The inner pot is non-stick aluminium and 6L in size. People worry about it being scratched but I didn’t find any problems there although I did use plastic utensils. It comes with a trivet that sits on a moulded lip around the inner pot, perfect for fish and small pieces of meat. I purchased a veg tray to sit on it to keep my veg separated when cooking, which I prefer.
I would definitely recommend the Tower if you’re looking for a cheaper version and you’re not bothered by all of the extras that some pressure cookers offer.
Drew & Cole Pressure King Pro Electric Pressure Cooker
The Pressure King Pro pressure cooker is another low cost alternative. With a 5L capacity it’s a little smaller in comparison to the Instant Pot. But one thing it can compete on is the price, it would make a great gift.
When it comes to capability it can offer similar functions including a slow cooker option. There are presets for the basics including meat, stew and rice. You get the delay timer and keep warm function as well as manual.
The inner pot has a copper colour but it’s a non-stick coating so plastic utensils need to be used. It does come with a steam tray but it is a bit more flimsy and made of plastic.
There are 3 colours, chrome, black and red. You also have 3 sizes available, this is the 5L, there is also a 6L and a 3L option.
If you only have a small budget this is an excellent choice.
Sage the Fast Slow Cooker Pro
The Sage by Heston Blumenthal has been designed so that you can select an ingredient and it will set everything correctly.
A great digital pressure cooker which can pressure cook, slow cook, sear and saute.
Choose your style of cooking and then select your food type or pick manual. You don’t have to think about pressure levels or times and it will even automatically release the pressure correctly depending on the food you are cooking.
It’s 6L in size with a non-stick inner pot.
Maybe, like us you will believe that in this Instant Pot review we have shown this is the best electric pressure cooker.
The 6L Instant Pot is a good all rounder piece of kitchen equipment. It’s large enough for a family but still very useful for a couple. It’s not the cheapest but it’s proven in quality. In my opinion it’s well worth the cost. The controls are easy to use and the options with an electric pressure cooker can be endless. For more information click below.
