If you like to make a lot of rice or rice meals, slow cook one pot meals or steam vegetables or other foods this is a good cooker to try. It has 6 cooking presets, Rice/Steam, Saute/Sear, Low & High Slow Cook and the keep warm function.
This Sage appliance has a non-stick removable bowl which has a 3.7 litre capacity which can hold up to 20 cups of cooked rice and keep it warm with the keep warm function while waiting to be served. You can make your rice in 3 different ways with this cooker, steam it so it is fluffy and filling and you can have it as a base to load other foods on top of. You can make your rice creamy by cooking it into a lovely risotto, usually time consuming and not the easiest to make or you can add your rice to your slow cooker one pot meal and make it spicy and tasty.
If you like to use a slow cooker then you can in this Sage by Heston Blumenthal BRC600UK, there is a sear function so if you like to brown your meat and vegetables before you cook your meal then you can just press the saute/sear button then start, add a little oil in the bottom of the inner pot and it will start heating up immediately, you can watch it as you turn over the pieces or if you want to leave it a couple of minutes you can add the lid which is a see through glass lid with a vent hole. When you have browned sufficiently press start again to turn it off then add all your other ingredients and stock and then press slow cook low or slow cook high whichever one you prefer. There are more Sage slow cooker instructions in the included manual.
On the high setting you can cook it for up to 3 hours and on the low setting you can cook for 6-7 hours after it finishes that time it will go onto the keep warm function. You can start on high then switch to low if you prefer but you have to switch it over manually. If you want to add rice into the pot as part of your meal add it about 25 minutes before you require it to finish and set it on the risotto setting and you will have lovely cooked rice in your one pot meal.
The risotto function in this Sage by Heston Blumenthal BRC600UK takes about 25 minutes and it lightly agitates the rice in the stock gently as it cooks, which simulates stirring and that releases the starch in the rice giving you a thick, creamy consistency, perfect in a risotto. There are some simple sage risotto recipes in the manual included.
To use the rice cooking function you need to use the rice cup which comes with the appliance to measure your portions, white rice is 1 cup of rice to 1 cup of water, brown is 1 cup of rice to 1.5 cups of water. Approximate cooking times are in the manual dependant on how much rice you want to make.
To steam in the BRC600UK you can use the included steam tray to put your vegetables, fish or any other food you want to steam in. You can add your water or stock into the inner pot and place your tray in the pot. You don’t want the water too high that it might get into the steam tray, and once you start the cooking period you don’t want to remove the lid until you have reached your complete cooking time as you will lose a lot of the steam heat and lengthen the cooking time. There is a list of suggested times by food type in the included manual.
There are a lot of 5 start reviews on this product, customers are totally satisfied with their purchase, feel that it makes perfect rice and risotto, love the keep warm function and find that the slow cooker function gives good results. What they love the most is that they have a rice/risotto cooker, slow cooker and steamer in one machine.
There are negative reviews mainly around the slow cooker set times, although you can run it again if it’s not long enough for you, and some people have found it stops working after a few months.
If you’re looking for a multi cooker that you can use as a slow cooker and rice cooker but you don’t particularly want a pressure cooker type like the Sage Fast Slow Pro, then this Sage Multi Cooker could be right for your cooking style. You can make a lot of different types of meals with this cooker, one for every day of the week.
